Cheryl Elaine Hawk, age 76, of Shelby, died Thursday morning, December 17, 2020 at her home with her family by her side.

Cheryl was born August 23, 1944 in Lodi, Ohio to the late William G. and Phyllis E. (Moon) Gwinner. She was a 1962 graduate of Shelby High School and had attended Ashland College. Cheryl had worked at local area doctor’s offices for 16 years and, as a creative person, owned Corner Cupboard Creations- a custom greeting card business. She enjoyed bowling and golfing, liked to travel, and especially loved following her grandchildren in their activities. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Bethlehem, Shelby Settlement.

On January 26, 1963, Cheryl married Dwight B. Hawk and he survives. Also surviving are her 3 daughters: Sherri (Shawn) Biettner of Shelby, Jill (Kevin) Karl of Shelby, and Melissa (Dave) Fensch of Rittman; 4 grandsons: Matthew Joseph Fensch, Kurt Christian Biettner,  Jared Andrew (Skylar) Fensch, and Logan Daniel Karl; great grandchildren: Sophia Fensch, Sarah Fensch, Jayden Fensch, and Liam Fensch; siblings: Terry (Gwen) Gwinner of Shelby, Fr. David Gwinner of Westerville, and Denise (Charlie) Welch of Crestline; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Fr. Jeff Smith will officiate private funeral services for Cheryl and calling hours will not be observed. Burial will be in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Cheryl’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association by going to their website, www.alz.org/donate.

Care for Cheryl and her family is being provided by the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, Ohio 44875.
