Cloyd E. Baker, age 83, of Fenner Road, Shelby, died Sunday, March 27, 2005 at Med Central Mansfield Hospital after a short illness.

He was born February 22, 1922 in Shelby, the son of the late Viola (Riggle) and Cloyd E. Baker, Sr. He was a 1940 graduate of Shelby High School and was a member of the 9th Army Air Force in World War II serving in the European Theater. He was a 30-year employee of Purdy Construction Company in Mansfield and prior to that he had been a self-employed carpenter. Mr. Baker was a member of the Shelby Masonic Lodge #350 F and AM, Alcoholics Anonymous in Willard, and was a former member of the Blackfork Players in Shelby.

Mr. Baker is survived by a son, Gregory (Diana) Baker of Mansfield and a daughter, Ann (Duane) Johnson of Mt. Vernon; 2 grandchildren, Michael Baker and Amy Baker; a brother, Kenneth (Winifred) Baker of Shelby and a sister, Evelyn (Robert) Moore of Mansfield. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Gerald and Glenn Baker and 2 sisters, Marabelle Fackler and Marjorie Will.

Friends may call on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 from 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be conducted at 8 PM by the members of the Shelby Masonic Lodge. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to Richland Newhope.
