Frederick Michael “Fred” Grimmer, age 64, of Shelby, died early Friday morning, December 5, 2025, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital following an extended illness.
Fred was born on November 24, 1961, in Seville, Spain. Growing up in Shelby, he graduated from Shelby High School in 1980. Fred loved to work, often putting in as much overtime as he could. He was employed at both Myers Pumps in Ashland and Hi-Stat Manufacturing in Lexington, from where he eventually retired.
In his free time, Fred enjoyed fishing, working with RC cars, and collecting guns. He had a deep love for animals—especially his pet bearded dragons and his mom’s dog, Baby. Throughout his life, Fred also had a special affinity for Harley-Davidson motorcycles and Trans Ams. He especially loved socializing with his family and friends. Fred was known for helping others and had a generous and giving heart.
Fred is survived by his beloved mother, Maria Luz “Luci” (Riaño-Paniagua) Grimmer; his son, Brandon Michael Grimmer; his sisters, Luz (David) Reiman and Sara Wooldridge; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, David Michael Grimmer; brother-in-law, Mark Wooldridge; nephew, Brandon Bays; and great-niece, Lillian Bays.
It was Fred’s wish that calling hours and funeral services not be observed. Care for Fred and his family is being provided by the Penwell Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby.

I knew Fred for along time. In the last couple years we were able to go out with Fred a couple times since he moved to Mansfield. It’s hard to believe that it’s gone I haven’t spoken with them recently we will miss him he was a very good man.
Fred, I will always miss seeing that white car pulling into the driveway and Fred walking in through the door. He would always bicker saying ” man we got to get that oil changed in my car one of these weeks” meanwhile years went by lol. Fred was a very close no knock before enter friend of my family. Fred I only knew you for these last 4 years, however thank you for showing me a genuine true real friend I could hang out with and made me feel like a real person I could be myself around. Boy did you love them snakes lol. We will have plenty of times and summers in the future in that garage thinking about you and missing you ole man. I love you Fred. Rest easy now soldier your battles are over, may the wind forever be at your back. Goodbye Fred.
