Garnett Thomas Busic, age 79, of 22 Shelby Avenue, died Friday morning at his home after an extended illness. He was born April 17, 1910 in Wythe County, Virginia ; the son of James Thomas and Martha Jane (Atkins) Busic.
Mr. Busic is survived by his wife, Mary Jeanette (Leapley) Busic; 4 daughters: Mrs. Virginia Ganoe of Rich Creek, VA, Mrs. Roger (June) Hartland of Mansfield, and Mrs. Glenna Jennings and Mrs. Charles (Audrey) Richardson both of Shelby; 1 son: Garnett Thomas Busic, Jr. of Waipahu, Hawaii; 1 brother Bernard Graham Busic of Chico, CA; 1 sister: Myra Harrell of Palaska, Virginia; 13 grandchildren;15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Aileen Busic in 1981 and by 1 grandson David Richardson in 1985.
Mr. Busic was a retired millwright from General Motor’s Fisher Body Plant in Ontario. He was a member of Taylortown community church, Shelby Masonic Lodge #350 F. & A.M., Scottlsh Valley of Columbus; Rlzpah Chapter #153 Order of the Eastern Star, United Auto Workers Local #549, and had been a former board member of the American Cancer Society Richland-Shelby unit.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home with his pastor the Rev. Dr. Edward N. Beck, officiating. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park. Calling hours will be on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home where Masonic Services will be held at 8:30 p.m. Monday.
Memorial expressions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Shelby Public Health League and left at the funeral home.
