Gordon C. Robertson, age 77, died early Christmas morning, Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at OhioHealth Shelby Hospital after an unexpected illness.

Gordon was born October 14, 1941 in Shelby and was a 1959 graduate of Shelby High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1959-1962. Gordon was a truck driver for his career working for several different companies as a part of the Teamster Local 40, retiring in 2002. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Shelby where he had been a former trustee and was always helping in the kitchen for community dinners and events. Gordon himself was an excellent cook and baker and enjoying sharing what he made with others.

As the song goes, Gordon’s wife, Mary Ann, is a little bit country and Gordon’s was a little bit rock and roll. He loved listening to rock and roll music and would play it loudly in his car as soon as Mary Ann was no longer in the passenger seat. Gordon also enjoyed working in his yard and had been a volunteer for the American Red Cross transporting blood.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Hoak) Robertson, whom he married on May 29, 1963. Also surviving is a daughter: Adrianne (Bruce) Metzger of Shelby; a grandson: Cameron Metzger; a step grandson: Mitchell (Katie) Metzger and their family; 3 step sisters: Patricia Witter, Kathleen Knostman, and Dolores (Gene) Leonhardt; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother: Norma Evelyn (Urie) Robertson; his father: Paul Henry Robertson; his son: Ryan Gordon Robertson in 2010, a sister-in-law: Dianne Kegley; and a brother-in-law: Scott W. Hoak.

Family and friends are welcome on Friday, December 28, 2018 from 4-7 pm at the PENWELL TURNER FUNERAL HOME, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 10:30 am. Pastor Garland Harvey, Jr. will officiate the services with burial following in Oakland Cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church Kitchen.
