Jon Brian Stentz, age 64, of Shelby, passed away suddenly yet peacefully and naturally at his home on Sunday, November 24, 2024. Jon’s love for his Lord and personal Savior Jesus Christ gives comfort to his family as he is united with Him and loved ones who have passed before him.
Born January 26, 1960 in Shelby to the late Donald L. and Marilyn Joanne (Leonhardt) Stentz, Jon was a Shelby High School Graduate Class of 1979. For 27 years he worked at Voisard Manufacturing in Shiloh.
Jon had a strong love and passion for coon hunting- something that has stuck with him since he was a young boy. He loved to take people hunting and being in the woods, especially with his walker coonhound, Dusty aka Dusty Doodle. He has had many hunting dogs throughout his life but Dusty was near and dear to his heart along with his little lap dog, Skippy. Skippy comforted Jon and his wife Linda and never left their side, even in Jon’s death.
Jon lived and loved the simple life- God and family first. His granddaughter and princess, Autumn, whom he shared a very special bond with, meant the world to him and in addition to coon hunting and running his dogs in the woods, his greatest hobbies were fishing, joyriding in the country, and watching Ohio State Football and the Cleveland Browns. He was also a Shelby Whippet fan and enjoyed going to the football games on Friday nights.
Jon is survived by his wife of nearly 41 years, Linda Jane (Shawk) Stentz; his daughters: Sarah Stentz (fiancé, Jeff Irelan) of Shelby, Melissa (Carlos) Alegria of Florence, SC, and Laura (Evan) Moriarty of Northville, MI; grandchildren: Autumn Irelan, Marin Fairchild, Enzo Alegria, Weston Moriarty, and Griffin Moriarty; siblings: Jane (Charlie) Risner, Mark (Martha) Stentz, and Jim Stentz; mother-in-law: Nancy Shawk of Bucyrus; sister-in-law: Victoria Shawk; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, Jon was preceded in death by his sisters: Beth Ann Mott and Linda Susan “Lindy” Hallmark; father-in-law: Donald Shawk; and in-laws: Dick and Karen Mott, Clayton Hallmark, and Dale Shawk.
Family and friends are welcome on Saturday, November 30, 2024 from 10-11 am at the Penwell Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will immediately follow at 11 am. Rev. Steven L. Schag will officiate the services with burial following in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made for an account set up for his grandchildren’s benefit, all of whom he loved dearly, with checks made payable to Linda Stentz.
Condolences may be left on Jon’s obituary on the funeral home’s website (PenwellFuneralHome.com) or their Facebook page (Facebook.com/PenwellFuneralHome).
