Nancy J. Clabaugh, age 76, of Shelby, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. Her death came unexpectedly.

Born November 14, 1947 in Canton to the late Gail Kenneth and Pauline Julia “Polly” (Martin) Walters, she graduated in 1965 from Shelby High School. Nancy had been employed at Shelby Mutual Insurance for 16 years until 1994 when, with the encouragement and support of her husband, Ted, and her family, she went back to school earning her nursing degree from North Central Technical College. Fulfilling her lifelong dream of being a nurse, she worked for various doctor’s offices in Mansfield and Shelby before retiring in 2010. For hobbies, Nancy absolutely loved camping and was a Browns Backers member through the inevitable ups and downs all Browns fans endure.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 35 years, Ted H. Clabaugh, whom she wed August 18, 1989; children: Tammy Nedolast and Tim (Sarah) Ewing; stepsons: Scott Clabaugh and Jarrod Clabaugh; grandchildren: Tyler Ewing, Jamie (Josh) Van Pelt, Cody Reitler (Anthony Jeffery), Gabby Ewing, and Andrew Ewing; great grandchildren: Kaylea Cole, Darrel Van Pelt, and Jaxon Van Pelt; and other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her sister: Carol Whisler; and stepson: Brian Clabaugh.

Calling hours and funeral services will be private at the Penwell Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, with Pastor James Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made the American Cancer Society (https://donate.cancer.org).

  • My sincere condolences Tim. I remember staying overnight and your mother being so incredibly nice until she swore we would go through your door playing nerf basketball, she took me so many places as my mom was still working and acted as a second mother.
