Sidney Gene “Sid” Caudell, age 71, of Mansfield, died Friday afternoon, December 5, 2025 at the Crestwood Care Center in Shelby, ending his many-year battle with illness.

Born March 21, 1954 in Newark, Ohio, he was the son of the late Kathryn (Binion) and Henry Clay Caudell, Sr. Sid attended Mansfield City School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, completing basic training at MCRD Parris Island, SC.

Sid was an incredibly hard worker. Having been a barber and later employed at Tuttle’s Landscaping in Mansfield, he was dedicated to his work and meticulous, to near perfection, in all that he did. He thoroughly enjoyed working outside.

Sid is survived by his daughter, DaWanna Johnson, who loving cared for him during his final months of declining health; his sisters: Kathryn (George “Mike”) Zajack of Mansfield and Kristina (Steve) Guyton of Wilmington; half-brother: Henry C. (Lynn) Caudell, Jr. of Shelby; half-sister: Pamela Caudell; sister-in-law: Penny (Hunt) Caudell of Mansfield; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Sid was preceded in death by his stepmother: Carol S. (Lemon) Caudell; brothers: Willliam Caudell, Sr. and Doug Caudell; sister: Karen Duncan; half-brother: David Caudell; the mother of his daughter: Cherly Brown; and his beloved dog: Sadie.

Sid was crowned the Senior King of the 2024 Richland County Fair. He was very overwhelmed and most grateful to have received the honor. Additionally, the family would like to thank the staff of Crestwood Care Center for their help and care of Sid.

Family and friends are welcome on Thursday, December 11, 2025 from 4-6 pm at the Penwell Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to offset funeral expenses.
