Hooty was born July 18, 1960, in Shelby, to the late John and Rose Rogers. He was a 1979 graduate of Shelby High School. Following graduation, Hooty began working as a roofer but later became well known in the community as a bartender at Phil’s Place, where he made many friends and was known by many patrons over the years.

Hooty was a devoted fan of Cleveland Browns football and Cincinnati Reds baseball. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching NASCAR races and WWE wrestling. He was also a talented pool player and loved spending time shooting pool with friends. Music was another passion of Hooty’s, especially the band AC/DC. He had been looking forward to celebrating his birthday this year by attending an AC/DC concert with his sister, Tina.

Hooty also enjoyed attending tractor pulls in Kent, golfing, and spending time socializing with his friends. He treasured camping trips with his family, creating many fond memories outdoors. He also enjoyed collecting Budweiser mugs and was a member of a Budweiser collectors club.

Hooty is survived his sister: Tina (Marty) McKinney of Shelby, and his nieces: Catherine “Katie” McKinney (Tyler Hayes) of Kittanning, PA and Anna “Annie” McKinney of Washington D.C. In addition to his parents, Hooty was preceded in death by his grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.
