Irma J. Studer, age 98 and longtime resident of Shelby, died Monday night, April 27, 2026. She passed peacefully at the home of her daughter, Jane, in Brookville, IN where she has resided the past several years.
Irma was born December 27, 1927 Shelby, the daughter of the late George C. and Martha M. (Verhoff) Kempf. She graduated from Shelby High School in 1945 and spent her working career at Shelby Business Forms, retiring in 1991 under the Miami Systems ownership.
Irma married Vincent C. Studer on May 7, 1949 and their lives were spent devoted to each other. What one did, the other stuck like glue. Together they were active member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby. At church, Irma volunteered in many ways and forms including being a eucharistic minister and member of the church’s Altar and Rosary Society. They quietly shared many hours and resources devoted to Christ and the church’s betterment. Additionally, Irma was a voracious reader- by far her biggest hobby and pastime. She and Vince also thoroughly enjoyed traveling, including overseas. Irma and Vince were married 74 years before his passing on July 18, 2023.
She is survived by her children: Mark (Pam) Studer of Shelby, Craig (Janet) Studer of Shelby, Thomas (Patti) Studer of Canal Fulton, Jane (Chuck) Studer Gartenman of Brookville, IN, and Jon Studer of Grove City; 15 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Irma was preceded in death by infant sons: Joseph William Studer and Timothy John Studer; daughter in law: Laurie Studer; a grandson: Joshua Evans; and siblings: Carl Kempf, Edgar Kempf, Jeannette Seitz, and Beda Phillips.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 11:30 am at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 29 West Street, Shelby, with Fr. Chris Mileski celebrating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public calling hours will not be observed. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
Condolences may be left on the funeral home’s website (PenwellFuneralHome.com) or Facebook page.
