Mark A. Simmons, age 69, of Shelby, died Monday night, July 27, 2026 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. His death follows a battle with cancer.

Mark was born March 8, 1957 in Ashland, he was the son of the late Ronald and Marilyn (Mosser) Simmons. A 1975 graduate of Crestview High School, Mark spent his 41-year working career as a machinist at Custom Hoists in Hayesville from where he retired.

For hobbies, Mark loved golfing, hunting, and trap shooting and had an affinity for classic cars, especially Mustangs. He also had a passion for youth baseball, coaching little league when his boys were young and was well recognized umpiring games at Copperweld Field.

Mark is survived by his wife of 50 years, Brenda L. (Shindeldecker) Simmons, whom he married July 24, 1976. Also surviving are sons: Kevin (Laurie) Simmons of Lewis Center and Joe (Mandy) Simmons of Shelby; grandchildren who were his absolute pride and joy: Abigail, Hailey, and Emma Simmons, Mason Simmons, Brooke Rowlett, and Remington Smith; siblings: Karen (Mike) Namy, Dann (Nettie) Simmons, Melody Simmons, Greg Simmons, and Kathy Ruiz; sister-in-law: Diane Simmons; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, Mark was preceded in death by his brother, Matthew Simmons.

A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Mark’s life. Care for Mark and his family is being provided by the Penwell Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Condolences may be left of their website (PenwellFuneralHome.com) or Facebook page.
